In the spring of 1957 the Boston Celtics, led by coach Red Auerbach, won a National Basketball Association championship for the first time. Auerbach had been building the team throughout the 1950s but was still missing what he considered an essential piece—a single player in the middle who could hoist the team on his shoulders by doing the dirty work of rebounding and playing defense. As you can see if you look under my other reviews, I read plenty of books. And partially due to that, I don't waste time on poorly written stuff. This book is one example.

I read Dynasty primarily because I am a fan of the Boston Celtics and given their recent championship thought this might make for a timely if somewhat self serving book trying to time the market right. Let me say that this is an excellent all around sports book that all fans of sports and people who think sports doesn't matter in our society should read.The Celtics during their amazing dynasty of the 1960's took the old sports adage that they were a team and put it to truth. It didn't matter where you sat on the bench you were as equal to the success of the team as if your name were Cousy or Russell. The Celtics players did not see black versus white and socialized with each other because the guy next to them was a teammate nothing more. Dynasty shows that the team did exist in a bubble during this period but chose to fight their battles on the court and prove that blacks and whites can exist together at a time when the country wasn't sure they could.I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to see how you succeed as a team and how ultimately the matters we can't control matter little next to those we can.

This is an excellent book. Not just for the obvious reasons of being one of the first publications to juxtapose contemporary art with its influential hip hop, but because the artwork is amazing. Much of the artwork is cutting-edge and new. I discovered many new artists that moved me. I even purchased a piece by the artist on the cover, Marcus Jansen, who is on the rise.

This is a must read.What an amazing correlation...an excellent piece of Visual Art. I purchased an electronic version. However, I am going to purchase a hard copy for my coffee table

Great album.

A wonderful work of music and art history, giving full cultural context to both classic songs and and amazing variety of visual art. Beautifully conceived... there are great, full-color artworks on virtually every page of this book, with the text as a perfect complement This may not be what you assume when you hear the words "Contemporary Art" with it's artspeak and theory... this is vibrant, humanist work, urban life depicted with amazing imagination and dazzling skill. Anyone questioning the relevance of painting in a technological age will have their answer here. Painters like Tim Okamura and Marcus Jansen are among the best I've seen working today, keeping that ancient art form alive. The images are in perfect relation to the music analysis, which is a revelation to me, a deep exploration of the music and culture of hip hop that could otherwise seem daunting to readers not steeped in it. Many voices are given a chance to speak here, and it's that personal touch and response that also brings this book to life. The author interviewers Dawud Knuckles, Danny Simmons, and Russell Simmons bring tremendous knowledge and historical perspective to this story of truly living art forms.

I originally did not know what to expect from the book but a friend of mine told me to check it out. I must say it is a really good read. It holds your interest with multiple aspects. It introduces a hip-hop song and breaks it down from an educated perspective on what it means and the positive points and/or the reasons why an artist is expressing a particular point or theme. Then you have some great fine art along side to show music can be art as well. And some pieces of art that express what you hear in the song.Highly recommended.

I got the book as a gift and first just placed it in my coffee table because it had really great cover art, and there it sat until the cable froze one yesterday!! while waiting for the 75 hour reboot i picked it up and Im happy I did the book really did a great job of bridging art and hip hop it was insightful and fun. It was a great and interesting read !! and considering the last book i read was probably Moby Dick in the 7th grade its saying a lot that i didnt put this down ! i would certainly recommend it and am buying 2 as gifts.

This is a great book. Its well put together and a genius idea! I wish i thought of this idea first! I definitely understand what art is suppose to do. I recommend this book for any one who appreciates good hip hop and art. The author interview with Russell and Danny Simmons was interesting. The art work is amazing and it has some of the greatest music and visual artist. This book is amazing ...i love hip hop but now i have i new love for visual art! I cant wait to see what else stems from this!

She just keeps repeating herself. Read like a couple chapters, and you pretty much got it. All the Gods and Goddesses parts are very repetitive.

Irene Silverblatt examines the effects of the Spanish conquest on women's place in Peruvian society. In a straightforward and uncomplicated way, Silverblatt lays out the material using a basic `before and after' approach. She spends the first half describing pre-conquest Andean life, concentrating on women and their roles in society. Then she shows how life changed for the Andeans after the arrival of the Spanish. Again, she focuses on how those changes affected women, arguing that not only were women affected by the Spanish conquest but that they suffered far greater loss of position than their male counterparts.

I always struggle with chemistry. It's a fact of life. This book was recommended to me by a fellow student who also struggled with the subject. I absolutely fell in love with the clear, concise logic, the examples, and the step-by-step explanations and calculations. I got an A in my CHEM 2 class, thanks to this book! I also recommend Professor Dave on YouTube for help on the subject.

This was a very useful aid when taking my general chemistry class in college. It explained things in a different way which really helped for parts that I didn't understand after reading my normal textbook and lecture notes. I would definitely recommend this for students who want the best possible grade in Gen. Chem. 2

Very helpful. They could have provided some more complicated problems such as different ways to solve given different types of information. Overall, a great purchase.

This is a good rudimentary review for someone who already has been through the course. I don't think you will "learn" chemistry from it, it is not deep enough.

The book is a great read for catching up on some chemistry knowledge, and the book was delivered in perfect condition.
