To be honest this one of the few technical computer books I've read from cover to cover. I usually just use them for reference. On the subject of cross platform development this is currently the best and most up-to-date however there were a few areas I would have liked to seen covered better most notably the build environment and makes. Mr Logan does touch on these subjects but they are not given as much focus as I would have like to have seen which is why I'm taking one star away. With that said if I was asked to recommend a book on cross-platform development it would be Syd Logan's, hands down..

Logan tackles a lot of little complications that are the bane and reality of programmers writing multiplatform C++. This is not a book about learning C++ from scratch. Conceptually, it helps to think of this book as about 1 level above writing C++ code. For example, it discusses compiling, linking and running, where needed libraries might be missing.The book describes 3 platforms. Microsoft Windows, Macintosh and unix/linux. Strictly, the Macintosh is nowadays using a unix variant. But it's done differently enough, and the Mac is popular enough, that Logan stands it separate from other unix/linux environments.Perhaps the best recommendation of the book is to use a platform abstraction library. So that you can far more easily maintain a common code base. The suggested choice of library is NSPR. One simple way that it helps is in how it makes explicit the byte lengths of various C/C++ variables. This legacy C ambiguity is still with us, and causes much porting pain. It is no accident that newer languages like Java and C# make these definitions explicit. But many of us still have to write in C and C++.

This was a good book to reference and augment your C++ portability skills. I have been porting code for years and found a few nuggets in this book I did not have to find out through trial by fire.As a previous reviewer mentioned, it does not cover Java or C#/Mono, which by the name of the title makes sense. Java and C#/Mono are good tools, but if you need to be where the metal meets the meat and need the squeeze out all your MIPS you can, you'll have to move down the language hierarchy to C++ and assembly.By setting up a nice abstract layer and firewalling you system calls and platform dependencies, you can usually build quite large sustainable C++ cross platform frameworks on many systems without the need for a VM level language.

This book is utterly worthless. One of the greatest differences in developing for one operating system versus another is how libraries are handled. This topic isn't even covered by this book. Save you money.

This might be how the author made $100,000 a year but it's not practical advice for others. I read this entire book in under a couple hours. All the way through I kept thinking, "is this it," it has to get better than this. Her "how to's" include such things as don't wear scrubs and sneakers and dress high class to get high class customers. She even gives a website to order clothes from. I laughed when I went there and saw the prices. No way am I going to do massage in clothing that costs more than what I am making an hour doing massage. The book is basically about getting rich working "for the stars, VIP clients," and big name hotels. She brags of month long vacations, being flown to NY by a well known model at a fee of $1500.00 with a $600.00 tip. Good for her. What I wanted was some useful marketing tips that would work for those of us who are looking to build a practice in our hometown and make a decent living. I and most other therapists I know have no desire to massage big name celebrities. Sorry, didn't find anything useful in this book, complete waste of time.

A lot of the information that Meagan provides is good business sense. You have to do a lot up front to reap the rewards later. Setting yourself a part in the beginning will go a long way for you. I have read several of the chapters and on my way to finishing the book. Her focus on "dressing for the clients you want" does not bother me like some. I have worked in corporate America for years and dressing for the job you want, not the one you have, is a thing that a lot of people do. A lot of this stuff is about presentation and marketing yourself.

This is a well written book and has some really good ideas. I think it is more for females therapists than males, but still has good information for someone wanting to start their own massage business. I would say it is a must read for anyone just starting out, as it will keep you from getting into situations that would not be in your businesses best interest. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 mostly because I felt like the information was better suited to larger cities than I work in. The sections on startups, ethics, dress, and attitude will help you go in the right direction.

This is an easy read (plowed thru in 24 hours), is well-written, and has information on a lot of relevant subjects. A great book if you want to find out what it's like to work in a hotel, spa, or for celebrities without actually doing it first. Also gives good info on insurance billing. Best info, I think, is the section that describes what your clients are expecting from you and your business materials and practices.Problem is that she mentions links for products throughout the book and says they'll be listed on her website, [...], but they're not. No links, just further selling of her book... rather disappointing, considering I was really excited about this book. She even repeats the adage of under-promising and over-delivering, but doesn't follow it herself, stripping some of her own authority...UPDATE: It appears the author received feedback regarding her lack of link list online because she's added a blog link to the sites she discussed in the book: [...] Yay! :)

A lot of this book is full of tips and tricks that Meagan has used and found to work in her own practice. I found myself reading it thinking that a lot of it should be common sense, but there's so much within owning a business or working as a massage therapist in general that many people probably don't think about. It's exciting and fun and so many fine details can easily get lost in the fold.

Though skeptical at first with the title I had read some great reviews of this book so I thought that I would give it a try. It is full of tips on the dos and don'ts, what to wear to attract your ideal client, and how to live a great life doing the work that we love to do. It has been inspirational and has given me a lot of useful information as I am starting my first massage business. Not fearing making money was a very good lesson - as was charging what you are worth. Thank you Meagan for writing this book. I highly recommend it to any massage therapist out there working right now (or in school). How to take care of you so you are better at your work - very good point as it is easy for us as therapists to forget us!

Absolutely wonderful read! I enjoyed reading about Meagan and her background just as much as all the helpful advice! This book is a must have for any serious career minded massage therapist. Insightful, intuitive, practical and put in simple terms. None of the crap you don't need and all of the meat you do to get you on the right path for a succesful career!

As a 10 year practicing massage therapist it was exciting to find a book well written on my craft. She pointers she gives are not unheard of but it was a good refresher to make sure your delivering ultimate customer service. She gives special insights on the business side of what we do to ensure that every therapist has direction in order to succeed in this business. You can learn plenty for this book and so much more. I loved it and I highly recommend it to any new or veteran therapist. Our community needs people like us so do yourself a favor and buy this book!

Great book. Very inspiring. After reading the book and actually meeting the author he has totally shifted my beliefs about what is possible and how to achieve it. The book gives great tips on strategies and thinking outside the box on prospecting. The name of the game is focused activity. The more people you reach, the more you earn. By any means necessary.

Five stars if he wrote just a little bit more. I don't know what made him make this so short but the ideas and information are awesome and I am going to incorporate them now!

Unfortunately this was a book written in a hurry, with scant attention paid to layout and grammar. Rashaun Page is clearly a salesman, not an author and he is not a detail guy. There are some good ideas to try, though his approach tends to go against mainstream business development techniques in the modern era. His use of autodiallers to voice spam prospects may not be permissable in all states, but he swears by them. I have tried an auto dialler to generate leads, and had no success. He has some good advice on getting low hanging fruit by selling funeral plans which are not medically underwritten to older people. These folks are often over looked. Like I said, this is one of those reads which takes under an hour and within the pages are one or two gems to try. Worth the read.

I found the material to be easy to understand and very practical. I needed a mentor to help me grow in this business and I've found it in Rashaun Page. I recommend this material to anyone in any business because the techniques apply to anything you sell.Thank you Rashaun for sharing your knowledge and expertise, you are a excellent mentor.Dexter McLean
