From Publishers Weekly
The author, a physician trained in Iran (Your Body's Many Cries for Water), not only believes that drinking water is healthy, but makes extravagant claims for its curative powers. He recounts here how he first discovered the healing abilities of water, when he was a political prisoner more than 20 years ago. While incarcerated, he successfully treated with plain water the stress-induced peptic ulcers that afflicted some of his fellow prisoners. According to Batmanghelidj, most people rely on dry mouth to signal thirst and as a result are seriously dehydrated. He posits that symptoms like fatigue, anxiety or depression indicate dehydration, which may result in serious conditions such as asthma, hypertension, brain damage, cancer, constipation, allergies and obesity. In order to compensate for fluid lost through urination, respiration, and perspiration, Batmanghelidj suggests drinking a minimum of two quarts of plain water daily (not alcohol, caffeine beverages or juices). In order to maintain good health, he also advises ingesting half a teaspoon of salt to balance water intake. In addition, a diet consisting of 80% fruits and vegetables and 20% protein should be followed along with an exercise program. To back up his theories, the author presents a wealth of somewhat confusing medical data as well as patient anecdotes that testify to water as a cure for various diseases. Batmanghelidj does state, however, that those diagnosed with specific conditions should not stop taking their medications abruptly, nor should they embark on a water regime until they have consulted with their physician. This controversial program will have the greatest appeal for devotees of alternative medicine. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Life changing book! I have been drinking a great deal more water now for two months. I am totally blown away in the difference in the way I feel. I have so much more energy. And it's a steady kind of energy throughout the day. I have given up all coffee, tea and sodas! I just don't need the caffeine anymore. It truly is miraculous that the answer to a much healthier me was right in front of me, yet I never saw it. My lower back pain cured up and no longer burdens me! Amazing. I am so thankful. I did not realize that my back pain was coming from being so dehydrated! Get the book. You need it! And don't forget to drink lot's more water!!!!
Before I purchased this book in the Kindle format, I was not drinking near enough water each day. Instead, I was drinking Cola drinks and other soft drinks. As I have had chronic shoulder pain for many years (that comes and goes), I did not know that I may be dehydrated or that dehydration may be one of the causes for my chronic pain. So I decided to drink more water each day just to see if it would help, and my pain lessened after a couple of days of drinking more water. Still, I was not convinced that adding pure water had anything to do with this huge amount of pain lessening, yet I was curious if water had anything to do with it. Then I discovered this Kindle book and bought it and was truly amazed to realize that yes, I was dehydrated and this contributed greatly to my chronic shoulder pain. This book explains so many things about water I never knew! And it shows how water can benefit the entire body and how the lack of enough water can create health problems. This entire book was helpful for me, however, my two favorite chapters are Chapter 8 - The Crisis Calls Of Water For the Body (this chapter explains why water is needed to flush too much acid from the body, as this acid buildup cases lots of pain). Also Chapter 9 covers Dehydration and Disease - this chapter is an eye opener as it shows the many diseases (18 listed diseases) that can be possibly caused by dehydration such as Obesity, Strokes, MS, Alzheimer's Disease, Aids, Strokes (Multiple), Cancers, Heart Failure and more...This book, I have read and will continue to use as a reference book. If you are concerned with your overall health, I totally recommend this superb book either in Kindle Edition or in the printed book form.
I got the kindle version and love it ! I'm feeling really healthy from just simply drinking 3 quarts + of water a day and 1/4 teaspoon of celtic sea salt per quart of water . I have not used salt in years due to all the talk about it causing high blood pressure . Well at age 78 my bp was usually about 140/81 now it is usually about 124/75 . your body needs lots of water and salt , but not the "white death" table salt with all it's additives ! I was sorry to hear the author passed away at age 70 from pneumonia .
Chronic dehydration is the leading cause of many diseases. This is something overlooked by our medical community. Going years without enough water can cause the cells to shrivel and this causes them to stop doing their job. It's the underlying causes of many illnesses. Then we take pharmaceuticals and never correct the dehydration, leaving us on these pills for the rest of our water deprived lives. Great book to own and remind us how important hydration is.
Since I started to read this book, I have take to a regimen of 10 pints of water per day.The first thing that happened, after I got back from the bathroom was to weigh myself and I see that I LOST 6 pounds in weight after 3 weeks.I have never paid attention to drinking water. I thought it was supposed to be yellow.I used to live on Tums and other antacids, as if they were candy. But now I can't recall the last time that I needed to take one.No more straining or discomfort in the smallest room each morning. Definitely no more Colace or Ducolax.Who knew that a free cup of water could save me $60 on pills and potions.
Doctors have always told me to drink more water. This book informed me on the why and how many problems are solved by merely drinking the same ounces of water as your weight in kilograms. For a 200 pound person that would be about 90 ounces of water a day. The body adapts to the increased amount consumed if I keep at it.
Loved the book! I mean its common sense that you should be drinking water everyday... but you don't really take into account how important it really is. Once i read this book I started drinking more water and am definitely more proactive doing so. This book puts everything into perspective. Everything. Water. I mean who knew?! People kind of think I think that I'm the "water guru" now, but truth really is that if they put down the sugar and picked up the H2O the quality of their lives would vastly improve. I personally have had problems with my skin since I was a teenager... everything from acne to adult acne to rashes... and it was terrible. It definitely took a toll on me emotionally. Once i started drinking the recommended amount of water and than some as well as increasing my salts, my skin took a U turn for the better. I couldn't be happier. They don't tell you to drink more water on labels. Keep it natural baby, and by drinking water everyday I promise you will notice the change. It won't happen over night, but stick with it daily and it will become a habit. Peeing all the time sucks, but i tell you i rather pee all the time than harbor what shouldn't be in my body. READ THE BOOK. Its an easy read, and if you're like me, you won't want to put it down.
This book and the other book Your Body's Many Cries for Water, wind up being the basis of a recent seminar that I conducted for the public in my area. I learned so much about pain and pain receptors, thirst receptors and how the masses really are entrenched in a trap of dehydration and their minds don't even know to register this. We are literally as a social whole, slaves to our inherent biological drought and this doctor knew it!!!! Its here people in basic black and white. Simple and easy to read and understand. Water is the source of life. Lets be alive!!!
