I downloaded Complete Hypnotism: Mesmerism, Mind-Reading and Spiritualism by A. Alpheus looking for information on the origins of hypnosis and mesmerism and other early techniques usable today. I found the history of what I had been looking for but realized how outdated most of this information is. That is, it’s written for a mentality of the time and this book was first published in 1903. The by-gone attitudes in the writing made this book difficult to stick with.While I read about the origins of these related topics early in the book, in Chapter 1, I found the psychological attitudes and explanations throughout not all suitable for today’s modern experiences and understanding. The amount of history presented would suit the researcher interested in early beginnings of these topics.
It's a developmental history. If you have a need or use for that then here you go. Matter of fact here's how they did it back then.
I thought about this book differently from the title/description ...It seems more like a thesis paper from a psych student.

The book is well written but do not really elaborate on how to hypnotize. Good reference to have for those interested in building a library on the topic.
