I have comforted close friends in the past who have lost their loved ones. But I personally grieved myself. Life has been pretty good to my family but I know that can change in an instant and I can never predict what I'll go through next. I read this book purely out of curiosity so I can possibly cope with future situations the best I can and well, the advice is powerful and it goes through many chapters from understanding grief to healing. Then I realized how important it is to read this book while I'm still okay so I have a clear mind and open to learning. I think reading this during my stage of grief would make things much more difficult to grasp. It's a really good book.

This book provides much useful information that has helped me through some difficult days over the past couple of months. The only complaint that I have is the formatting of the book. Section headings that lack formatting and incomplete sentences sometimes make reading a little difficult but it does not take away from the content. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is working through the grief process.

Wonderful book for anyone who is grieving. I truly helped me understand what I was feeling.

The book itself is great but the kindle version has problems. There are incomplete sentences and discussions. For example, chapter 4 discusses "ten steps to healing a broken heart" and presents up to the ninth step but not the tenth. Please!

This is one of three books that I think are essential to want to be Comic artists and writers. This is book one: It tells you how stories are and should be put together, how to pace for effect and (whether you are to be the writer or the writer/artist combination) this is the best and shortest. It is older and has an update at the end. If you still have the desire then Move on to the next book..... Book two tells you from the writer's stand point what you need to do to get artists (penciler, pen artist, lettering and color) And if you are an artist it tells you all the different art skills needed) This book is called WRITE OR WRONG by Dirk Manning. (a second volume is in the works) The third book is DIRECTING THE STORY: PROFESSIONAL STORYTELLING AND STORY BOARDING by Francis Glebas. Again this it good for either writer or artist or any combination. It brings to fruition all the first two books teach you. For actual drawing skills there are many books for style, type of comic, manga, or graphic novel (just a very long comic).

This edition reprints an excellent essay from Moore, written during the height of his run at DC Comics. As glimpse back to a somewhat simpler time in the career of Moore it's an invaluable item as we get see into the process that he was using at that time. Given the almost 20 years of elapsed time since the writing of the piece, the "advice" or discussion of Moore's process is a little dated (make that a lot dated) and the author's own postscript to the edition disavows much of the "advice" he gives in the previous section. (His later renunciation of a defense over a piece of awful purple prose from an early Swamp Thing story will give you a smile, especially if you were around in the 80's) That aside, if you take it as an in-depth study behind the process that created some of the best comic scripts of the era, you'll enjoy it immensely. This is NOT a how-to book for those seeking that type of guidance. Taken for what it is, it's a fascinating read.

A lot of bang for your buck here, even if it's short. The comic book format is ingenious, and I suggest others who want to publish blogs in a legit print format do the same. Alan's wisdom and experience in the industry comes through in 50 pages better than most in 200 pages or more. While I'm all for long, in-depth books about any subject, sometimes having a true genius and guru on a subject offer short but sweet words is vastly more effective. What I've gotten from his little book here is something that I can apply beyond comic writing. Blogging, novel writing and screen plays. Hell, I can even write more entertaining Facebook posts and emails from what I've learned from this little book.

this book was a great read. the only reason i am not giving it five stars is because it doesn't offer all that it could with alan moore's current experience and thought processes. it was written relatively early in his career and he himself added a chapter at the end discussing how many of his views have changed and evolved. oddly enough the depth he explores shows one how much more there is to explore. it is rather thin, and i would love to see something 2-3 times the length delving into other details. that said, i have read stephen king's book 'on writing' and other books on storytelling in different forms and so far this may be my favorite. i wish there was more and i guess his body of work and those it has influenced as well as the screenplays based on his work may be where one can look for more. his discussion of how he develops stories and characters is quite rich in depth. he makes it more tangible and accessible and describes his process well. if i could give it four and a half stars that it probably what i would offer. i underlined much of the book and have mentioned it to friends as a suggested read. i anticipate that i will look back on it from time to time and am very happy with the purchase. highly recommended for writers who want to tell stories whatever the form - novels, graphic novels and screenwriters at the very least.

Worth it. I am a striving comic creator who works and won't have time to read as much as I did this last summer. If you're a striving comic creator this is great book about the medium not because it teaches you how to write, but because it invokes you to create. The things I already knew that Moore talks about helps reinforce good points of story telling while interjecting Moore's insights to writing.Warning: You might have to look up some Moore References. As usual, Moore's has a few obscure references you might not have heard or read about. I know who "Eddie Campbell" is to comics but since the essay is older "Campbell" is treated as an unknown source in Moore's Essay. Still I feel since I'm rereading the "Watchmen" this is a "must have" because it gives a behind the scenes look to Alan Moore's thinking process as he wrote the "Watchmen". A pleasant fear I have is that if the movie is a success this book will be sold out. No, not the love you'd find between a man and a woman or a confused grad student... but the love and respect you might find between two bitter rivals who look at each other with a knowing nod and hint of a smile.Liza's never been hotter than she is now and this scrapbook is just the thing you'll want to read to get you caught up on her deepest desires and secrets.I know Liza is trying to put that awful David G. (I refuse to write the name "Gest") episode behind her and possible find love with someone who's less into getting bad plastic surgery and looking creepy.I once met David Gest at a Rest Stop on the Jersey Turnpike. Economical way to add artwork to a room. Vintage look with many options to choose from. The background colors vary though so it limits your choices if you are grouping them and picky about them "matching". Good quality and easy to remove along perforated lines.

Good quality paper and images. The pages tear out easily, which is nice. Some prints do have a lot of empty space, which can look a bit strange amongst more busy prints, but that's my only complaint.

This was given as a gift to a dear friend who wanted some butterfly pictures to hang around her home. This gave her the option to choose prints, tear them out and frame them exactly as she envisioned - a great buy!

These pictures fit perfectly in a 8x10 frame and they are gorgeous!

This is a beautiful little botanical book. I didn't tear out the prints because it's too cute on my end table.

I had the digital version of the book on my kindle. I carry it with me during my daily visits to the Lord on my guard hour. It took me a few months to finish the book as I only read it when I am in the presence of the Lord. I was chewing on the words and tried to digest them slowly glancing at the Lord from time to time saying "Ah, so that is what you meant..". It helped me understand the old testament which was so confusing in a sense that I couldn't understand what the Eternal Father meant and why He did what He did. The author refer to the Bible verses, history and practices which helped in relation to understanding the culture at the time the Scripture was written. It made me see clearer the role of the Church as the bride and us as individual bride the Lord loved so much. After reading the book, I have a new concept of the Church and realized the whole story of creation and salvation is truly the best love story ever written for all time. It goes beyond human understanding and perception of love and mercy. It made me stop and stare at the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament in awe "Lord, what kind of love is this? Unfathomable, extra ordinary, exemplary..." There is no word to describe. It made me think that "wow, I do really have an awesome Eternal Father and God and I am glad I am adopted" . He does keep His promises.Highly recommended for those who are having difficulties understanding the Old Testament and correlating it with the New Testament. Its like treasure hunting where the things that are hidden are made clear . Like jewels being uncovered that builds a concrete and beautiful bridge parallel to the New Testament. Totally awesome.

Just a simple review from a simple man. I am not a biblical scholar and have been challenged to understand many of the books of the Old Testament. I finally decided to see what writings were out there to help. I came across this book by Dr. Hahn and have to say I simply love it. Generally speaking, he provides a clear and thorough review of the Old Testament. I have such a better understanding of historical events that occurred from the Creation of Adam and Eve to the Birth of Jesus Christ. He does an incredible job of tying together Old Testament events, Laws, Rulers, etc. and he makes it make sense. I plan to read the book again after I finish the last few pages. It's that good...

Scott Hahn hits another home run with this book. He breaks down the various covenants that God established through the Old Testament and the one He established in the New Testament. He defines exactly what a "covenant" is and how God has developed and enlarged them over the centuries. This book will help you understand the structure of the Bible better and What God has had in mind for us all along. Thank you Mr. Hahn and I look forward to your future works!

This book was an amazing piece of work. It helped me to understand what Catholics believe what they do about the Bible. It explores things from a different angle than I was expecting to see things. I rated it four stars because I am a tough grader.I needed this book in training for a crash course in the six main covenants in salvation history. It was a helpful supplement to the class. Additionally, it was a helpful aid to turn to during the classes that I had to teach this summer to kids.

Incredibly well-written, well-researched book that walks you through the scriptural covenants between God and His people. The scholarship in this book is second only to the love this author shows for his God and his readers. He takes complex subjects and makes them easier to understand while talking to his audience as intelligent human beings. The reader is left with a deeper appreciation for the bible and a desire to walk closer to God.

Scott Hahn can always be trusted to present Scripture study in refreshing and thought-provoking ways. This book is so helpful as a guide through the covenants God made with his people, always looking to their reconciliation with himself despite all mankind's failings and flagrant disobedience. The emphasis on the New Covenant is woven throughout the study, with the "types" or "foreshadowings" in the older covenants pointing to the time when God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, and made it possible for God and his people to be forever united in total harmony, as he intended it from the beginning.

Its a good reference book. Some chapters I feel like the authors are somewhat bias towards certain schools of thought!

This is very interesting reading. The articles are well written, scholarly, and very informative. An important addition to the collection of any student of Islam and/or religion.

The Cambridge Companion to Classical Islamic Theology is a useful text for the study of early Islamic theology. This is a book for scholars and not going to be useful for the person with a passing interest in Islam.

Good news --- this is the kind of reference book that should be on the shelf of every student, researcher or teacher. They should be used in association with another great textbook, called The Cambridge Companion to the Qur'an and I suppose the publisher is quite good at referring to other works. It's well edited, with a healthy collection of selected chapters. Really good articles are those in part 2 titled themes in which you find good stuff on ethics, revelation, the existence of God and his attributes. Tim Winter's introduction is really helpful as a great overview of the historical perspectives as well.
