I am so sorry, I hate writing bad reviews. But this is only my opinion, there are a lot of 5 star reviews too. For the life of me I can't figure out why. The story line sounded good so I thought I'd give it a try. Usually I read a book within 2 days at most. This one I read for 4 nights and kept falling asleep. This book is sooooo repetitive. Omg, I couldn't handle the boredom of this book. All the chapters are very much the same. She's tired, she drinks coffee, she knows she is forgetting things but doesn't know what. Ugh! It goes on and on and on. I finally gave up when I was 45% through the book. I usually always read a book to the end but I didn't want to keep wasting my time. I was going to skip to the end of the book like some others did but I didn't care enough about the characters to even do that. Sorry ladies,, not my cuppa tea.
This book felt like I was reading the same thing every chapter: Diane is tired, she sees someone stalking her, she hears voices, she does something stupid, she gets drunk, she can’t sleep....repeat! I eventually skipped to the end just to find out what happened because I couldn’t handle reading the same thing over and over. Not a good book; even the ending was anticlimactic.
Where to begin. I agree with other reviewers in that page after page and chapter after chapter contained the same redundant information. I really disliked the main characters especially Diane, since she seemed so weak and pathetic. The main theme being “Diane is tired†exhausted and she can’t sleep EVER despite taking sleeping pills, pain pills and drinking alcohol every night. Oh except when she is supposed to be taking care of her kid of course, then she falls asleep while standing up. She also cries and sobs way too much, it’s just ridiculous. She allows her husband to treat her with such dislike and disdain and she suspects he doesn’t love her anymore but she says and does nothing about anything! She does however make sure dinner is on the table for him every single night and that he doesn’t catch her sobbing continuously, even though he ignores her and acts like she doesn’t exist. She sees someone stalking her, and the woman is always there and follows her constantly yet when she sees the stalker face to face she never confronts her and does nothing a NORMAL grown woman would do in the same situation. I honestly started to believe she was crazy and definitely wasn’t a good mother at all so who in their right mind would root for a character like that?? It took until almost the end of the book to get to anything interesting and even then it wasn’t enough at all to make the book worth reading. The only reason I gave it three stars is because I kept reading it, hoping to get to something good. Definitely anticlimactic and I don’t see how it is called “addictive†“gripping†or even a thriller, I think Diane should have been locked away.
Gripping story lots of twists. I thought I had it figured out a few times but in the end I was somewhat surprised.
I found the main character weak, and found myself shaking my head saying WTH? The story was redundant with daily routine descriptions. I enjoyed the ending, though. I would have liked more substance.
Good story about a women who goes thru a horrible tragic accident to her baby and she looses everything her mind her husband her lifestyle but she lo B-) loves her other daughter and will pay the husbands mistress back.
Not addictive and poor at best
Diane and Paul are married, live in a lovely home in London and have a 3-year-old daughter named Emma. All should be wonderful in their world, but alas, things are not what they seem. Diane is recently returned from a short stay in a psychiatric center after having a breakdown. She can't remember what put her in the place and her husband says that the doctors want Diane's memories to return at her own pace. Diane tries to get back into her role as wife and mother but strange things start happening. She sees a woman hovering nearby and believes that she is being stalked. She drinks a lot, forgets things, and can't sleep so she's exhausted all the time. She hears the sound of a baby crying. Her one-loved lounge is a room that now fills her with fear. Diane is a freaking mess but somehow she knows that her husband is behind all of this and wonders, to what end? NO SPOILERS.You've read this book before and there are no surprises here. It's typical psychological fiction -- the kind where you want to shake the main character and scoff at the unrealistic situations that keep occurring. I didn't like Diane nor any of the other one-dimensional characters in the book. This one just didn't do it for me though I was able to get through it quickly. Lots of repetition and the incessant mental angsting that I find hard to swallow. I may be reaching my last straw with domestic and psychological fiction so perhaps it's just me feeling like there's nothing new in this sub genre.Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.
